For those who attended Kuo Hwa Theater in the 90s here in the San Gabriel Valley — we’re excited to announce that we’re back to showing movies again.

With the recent resurgence of Taiwanese New Wave cinema, we thought it would be perfect to kick off the Lunar New Year with IN OUR TIME, the film that launched the Taiwan New Wave movement. A rare screening indeed.

IN OUR TIME consists of four short films by four different directors, capturing life across four decades — from the 1950s through the 1980s.

Featuring an all‑star group of directors and writers:

Yi Chang (1951–2020)  

Writer and director known for Kuei-mei, a Woman (1985), Jade Love (1984), and A Dog’s Life (2017). He was married to Sa Hsiao and Yang Hui-Shan.

I-Chen Ko (born 1946)  

Actor and director known for Blue Moon (1997), Life of Pi (2012), and A Piggy Tale (1991).

Te-chen Tao  

Known for In Our Time (1982), The Sea Plan (1987), and That Day, on the Beach (1983).

Edward Yang (1947–2007)  

Director of Yi Yi (2000), Mahjong (1996), A Brighter Summer Day (1991), Taipei Story (1985), and many more.
